Harrison Twp. man sent to prison for assaulting baby son

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) – A Harrison Township man will spend at least six years in prison for causing serious injury to his 8-week-old son.

On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, Sheriff’s deputies responded to Dayton Children’s Hospital on reports of an 8-week-old baby boy who was brought to the hospital. The baby was completely unresponsive and was suffering from multiple skull fractures and other very serious injuries.

Upon investigation, authorities discovered that 23-year-old Hopeton M. Taylor, the baby’s father, was home alone with the baby when the injuries occurred.

When the boy’s mother got home, she found the child unresponsive with serious head trauma and took him to the hospital.

On February 28, 2019, he was found guilty on counts of felonious assault causing serious physical harm, and endangering children causing serious physical harm.

Thursday, he was sentenced to a total of six years in prison. Additionally, the state reserves the right to pursue additional charges in the event the baby dies from his injuries.

“It is unthinkable that a parent would cause such injuries to his or her own child. This defendant critically injured his own baby son. Parents are supposed to care for and protect their children. This defendant did neither,” says Prosecutor Heck.
