DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Federal funding has been secured to construct a roundabout at the intersection of Alex Bell Road and Mad River Road.

It was originally thought that construction could not begin until state fiscal year 2024, but since the funding will be available much earlier, the Montgomery County Engineer’s Office says construction can now begin in state fiscal year 2022, which runs from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

The county engineer announced in September that based on public input, preliminary engineering, traffic studies, estimated costs, the office’s collective engineering experience, and knowledge of the county’s roadway system, the preferred alternative is the roundabout.

The next steps will be to select a consulting firm to prepare the final design.

The roundabout alternative must prove to be feasible to construct and pass environmental reviews before proceeding to construction.
