Local News

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Former patients of Miami Valley Hospital’s NICU were welcomed home by staff members Saturday. Nurses, doctors, and other caregivers were reunited with the premature babies they once cared for, giving them the chance to see the progress the patients have made.

Activities include entertainment, face painting, games, and refreshments. The former patients range in age from recently-released babies to young adults.

Megan Bettag is the chair of the NICU reunion committee. She says, “I am a nurse and have been helping for the last 13 years with the NICU reunion. And we’ve been doing this for longer than I’ve been here. They’ve held a NICU reunion every 2 years.

Miami Valley’s NICU opened in 1975. Since then they’ve treated thousands of babies in need of special medical attention.
