YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN)- The Miami Valley’s first medical marijuana cultivator will open its doors on Monday. Cresco Labs will open up a 23,000 square foot facility in Yellow Springs near Antioch University.
Marijuana will be grown in a secure, climate controlled environment. Products cultivated there will be available at dispensaries across Ohio.
Based out of Chicago, Cresco Labs is the largest cannabis operator in the country.
Yellow Springs Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Karen Wintrow was one of the driving forces behind bringing the facility to the village. She expects the facility will bring a positive impact to the area in the way of jobs and tax revenue.
“Yellow Springs does have income tax so we will see some income tax revenue. The property that they’re located on, it was agriculture. It was being farmed but it was zoned industrial so it was always intended for business use,” Wintrow said.
