MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) — Firefighters were called to a house fire in a Miami Township neighborhood Thursday evening.

Crews were called to Overture Drive in Miami Township just before 6:30 p.m. for reports of a building on fire.

When crews arrived on scene, they found fire coming out of the second story of the building and were able to put out the fire quickly before it spread to surrounding buildings.

“Luckily, the resident did have a working smoking detector which gave him the early warning that he needed to get out,” Nick Sanders, Bat. Chief of the Miami Township Fire Department, said.

“He did hear the smoke detector and that’s what led him to leave the home and realized the home was on fire when he exited. Again, another reason why we urge you to have a working smoke detector in your homes.”

One person suffered minor injuries and was treated on the scene.
