Fire tears through vacant house in Harrison Township

Local News

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) — Needmore Road is back open after a vacant house in Harrison Township went up in flames early Wednesday.

Crews responded to reports of a fire at a building on Needmore Road, near N. Dixie Drive, just after 5 a.m. Wednesday.

When firefighters arrived, they found a house covered in flames. Smoke from the fire could be seen from I-75.

Fire officials say crews battled the fire from the outside. There was no one inside when the fire started.

According to fire officials, crews were at the same home Tuesday for a suspicious fire.

Fire officials say there is evidence people were squatting in the home.

The house was reportedly vacant for some time. There was still gas and electric service running to the house, but crews shut that off to battle the fire.

No firefighters were injured.

Authorities shut down all lanes of Needmore Road, near N. Dixie Drive, to battle the fire.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is sending an investigator to learn the cause of the fire.

Fire officials say the fire is suspicious.
