DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The father of a toddler who was accidentally shot and killed June 4th appeared in court Tuesday.

34-year-old Jamahl Evans from Dayton pleaded not guilty on 14 total charges including involuntary manslaughter.

The charges stem from the shooting death of his 2-year-old son J’veontae Johnston.

Evans’ 13-year-old son was playing with Evans’ gun on June 4th when the teen discharged the weapon, hitting and killing his 2-year-old brother.

The teen is currently on house arrest.

A Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Evans last week.

A judge set Evans’s bond at $500,000. He’s being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
