RIVERSIDE, Ohio (WDTN) – Family members and neighbors are reacting to Tuesday’s revelations surrounding the investigation into the disappearance of missing woman Cheryl Coker.
Riverside Police are publicly applying pressure to William Coker, Cheryl’s husband, as their one and only suspect.
Her family, some of which live in Florida, is not surprised. They have been in weekly contact with lead Detective Travis Abney.
“We’ve known or suspected that all along. It didn’t come as a surprise. However, it’s still a surprise to see it out there,” Cheryl’s sister-in-law Barb Carroll tells 2 NEWS. “We’ve known him [William] for over 20 years, and having known Cheryl, knowing what a wonderful person she was, to know that someone could hurt her instead of just letting her walk away is difficult to absorb.”
Tuesday, there was no movement from the Coker household.
2 NEWS has reached out to William Coker several times since the disappearance and has gotten no response, and a sign in front of the family home is not welcoming to strangers.
Neighbors say this ordeal has left a dark cloud over the community.
“It’s in your mind every day, living in the neighborhood that this happened in. It’s a little uncomfortable,” said one neighbor.
Others told 2 NEWS off camera they don’t see William Coker that often.
Most people just want justice for Cheryl.
“If he’s done something to his wife and is involved in it, I think he needs to be held accountable for it.”
Now that police have laid their cards out, Cheryl’s family wants William to hear their message.
“Why? Why was it necessary? How could you do this to her mother? To her family? How could you do this to your daughters? Why?” asks Carroll.
Police have said that evidence points to homicide, and the family hopes they can recover Cheryl in some way but say they don’t know if the suspect will budge.
