Family displaced after basement fire at Dayton house

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A family must find a new place to stay after a house fire in Dayton.

Firefighters responded to reports of a fire at a house on Cherry Drive, near Valleyview Drive just before 4 a.m. Monday.

Authorities say neighbors saw smoke coming from the home and called 911.

When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the home.

Firefighters found fire in the basement of the home.

Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.

No one was home when the fire started and no one was hurt.

The family living at the home must find a new place to stay due to fire and smoke damage. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
