Drowsy driving blamed for crash involving semi in Darke County

DARKE COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) — A man was hospitalized after a crash involving a semi in Darke County.

It happened around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday on US-127, near Greenville St. Marys Road.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office says an SUV driving south on US-127 rear ended a semi.

Deputies say the semi was slowing down for the Village of North Star when the crash happened.

According to deputies, the driver of the SUV may have fallen asleep behind the wheel before hitting the semi.

The driver of the SUV was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. Authorities have not released his condition. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Ansonia Rescue, North Star Fire and CareFlight assisted the Darke County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
