Donation fund set up in honor of Bellbrook police sergeant

BELLBROOK,Ohio (WDTN)- Bellbrooke Police Department Sergeant Brian Meade was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Now, a new donation fund set up here hopes to help support the husband and father of two through this difficult time.

"He's a very gentle man. A man who has a great spirit and great spiritual belief," Lieutenant Stephen Carmin said of Meade.

Meade has a wife and two children who are facing this diagnosis with him.

"Doctors have said he's going to have a very long uphill climb; an uphill battle," Carmin said.

Sergeant Meade manages evening patrol shifts and trains new officers. Carmin said he is very well liked in this town.

"He plays a very important role here as what he does as a police officer and a sergeant. But he's also a very good friend," Carmin said.

That's why the department decided to step up.

"We know this is going to be a huge strain on his family as far as finances are concerned, so we decided to help himself and his family," Carmin said.

A donation fund is open at KeyBank on Franklin Street in Bellbrook to help with those expenses. The account name is Sergeant Brian Meade Cancer Fight Fund. Donors can stop by the location or give them a call. Donations can also be dropped off at the Bellbrook Police Department.

So far, Lieutenant Carmin said they've had plenty of community support.

"Just in the couple of days we've had this on our Facebook page, we've have 30,000 or 33,000 views and shares," he said.

The department and Meade's family will continue to need that support as the sergeant works to defeat this diagnosis.

"He has a great deal of strength. We're always praying for his recovery," Carmin said.
