DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – In recognition of Safe Digging Month, the Miami Valley Utility Safety Council hosted a dirt demonstration event at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

It featured information regarding safe digging procedures as well as a line location demonstration.

The event is to keep homeowners who plan to dig for yard projects from putting themselves and their community at risk by not calling 811 first to learn the location of underground utilities.

“Any project, whether it be a utility company, whether it be a professional excavator, whether it be a homeowner, if you’re penetrating the surface of the ground in the state of Ohio, you are required to have a dig ticket from the 911 call center,” says Jason Boyles, and OH911 representative.

National Safe Digging Month was established in 2008 as a way to spread the word about safe digging practices.
