DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton Police Department is investigating an attempted abduction and robbery that happened early Tuesday morning.
A woman told police she was walking to a friend’s house when a man started following her.
“He was following me. He kept following me and I kept telling him I was fine and didn’t need a ride. He would go around the block and come back to me, and he just kept asking me..what was wrong with him,” said the victim when calling 911.
Tuesday’s incident happened just a few feet away from the Sunrise Center, a program that helps young mothers and children get by.
Stivers School of the Arts is just across the street.
“There’s a girl outside yelling help me, help me, help me,” said a witness to 911.
The caller never actually saw the woman, but saw a man steal the victim’s purse and run down an alley next to the abandoned pool near the Sunrise Center.
“He’s wearing a black beanie cap, maybe an orange vest and a white shirt. He ran to the alleyway across the street to the abandoned pool and grabbed a purse that was sitting on the sidewalk,” said the witness.
The suspect tried to get the woman inside his car but she ended up getting away. The suspect did steal her purse.
One woman told 2 NEWS reporter Ethan Fitzgerald that she had a similar experience a few blocks away and told Ethan that this story will change how she goes about her business in the area.
“I’m 20 weeks pregnant right now. For something like that to happen to another woman, it could have happened to me. I mean, it leads me to believe that maybe I should start carrying something around with me,” said the woman who wished to stay anonymous.
