DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A man is in serious condition at a local hospital after a shooting in Dayton Thursday night.

Police responded to reports of a shooting on W. Fifth Street just before 6 p.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived, they found a man shot several times lying in a church parking lot.

Medics took the victim, described as a 30-year-old man, to Miami Valley Hospital. Police say the man is in serious condition, but considered stable.

Police say the shooting started at a nearby apartment complex. During the investigation, officers found several shell casings in the area and found shots fired into one of the apartments.

The Fire Department forced entry into the residence to make sure everyone inside was alright. The apartment was not occupied.

Witnesses say they heard multiple shots fired in the area, and then saw two suspects get into a white vehicle, possibly a Chrysler or a Dodge.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 222-STOP (7867).
