On Tuesday, May 15, Dayton Public Schools Board of Education voted to amend the salary schedules for administrators and district support staff.
Dr. Elizabeth Lolli, DPS Superintendent, said that after research and comparing the school district to others both nearby and similar sizes, they discovered Dayton on average paid much lower and she feels tweaking this will help recruiting in the future.
Now the salary schedule will be majority based on years of experience and the number of people in the building.
However, Lolli said it will not happen overnight.
Employees due for a raise on the new scale will receive the raise in increments if it is a certain percent.
At the regularly scheduled board meeting, parents, teachers, school employees and more were in support of Jennifer Dearwester and Karl Perkins, two principals who the board was proposing not to extend their contracts.
Dearwester is the principal at Ruskin Elementary and had numerous parents, employees and others speak on her behalf urging the board to reevaluate their position.
However the board did vote to non-renew both Perkins and Dearwester’s contracts.
