Dayton Police hosts National Night Out

Local News

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – This is the 35th year since the National Night Out program began, and it has made its way to all 50 states as well as Canada and military bases across the world.

Many people think of national night out as an evening to leave a porch light on, but it now includes block parties, cookouts, and other community events.

Dayton police said this is the perfect opportunity for their officers to meet with the residents and get to know them a little better, it also allows them to get people interested in anti-crime groups, and show criminals that the neighbors care about the community and are prepared to fight crime.

“Even though this might seem small, hanging out at these events and visiting with people, every one of them is an opportunity to build a new friendship that could lead to a new partnership,” said Major Wendy Stiver of Dayton Police.
