MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) – A Dayton man was charged in connection to an alleged armed robbery in Indiana while driving back to a hotel in Miamisburg.
Police said the Dollar General employees told them the suspect entered the store on April 2 and came to the counter with candy and a Gatorade and said “this is a robbery, give me the money in the money drawer,” and showed a gun. The suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and drove away.
The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department said they received a call from someone about identifying the suspect and provided the suspect’s phone number. This same person called the department before about the suspect stealing a gun that belonged to a family member.
Detectives were able to track down the suspect threw GPS location through his phone which sent them to the Red Roof Inn in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Miamisburg Police Officers responded to the ‘signal 99’ April 4 to the Red Roof Inn. A ‘signal 99’ is a call for help or an officer needs additional assistance.
According to the press release from the prosecutor’s office, from the suspect showed the police he had a weapon and officers fired their guns that ultimately hit the suspect in the leg. The suspect is still at Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Thirty-eight-year-old Jeremy Watson was taken into custody and is now facing charges.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations obtained a search warrant for Watson’s hotel room and found the clothes he wore during the time of the alleged armed robbery in Indiana.
Prosecutor Lynn Deddens said,“Thank you to the concerned citizen who spoke up and thank you to all the dedicated law enforcement officers of both Indiana and Ohio who worked tirelessly to apprehend a dangerous robbery suspect in less than twenty-four hours of this alleged act occurring.”
