DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Alcohol is believed to be a factor after a driver was trapped in their car by a crash.
Around 3:20 a.m. on Friday, a single car crashed into a pole by the intersection of Irving Avenue and Winden Avenue in Dayton, according to Dispatch. When crews arrived on the scene, they found the driver unconscious inside the car but were unable to get them out due to the live utility wires lying on the car.
AES Ohio said the wires were attached to a transmission pole, making them a higher voltage than a distribution pole. Only one customer lost power during the incident.
After the live wires were removed, the driver was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with minor injuries from the collision. Authorities say the driver was not injured by the live wires.
The driver was cited for OVI, authorities said.
AES Ohio crews were called to the scene to assist while the intersection was closed.
