DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Hillcrest Seventh-Day Adventist Church is partnering with Karmel’s Day Spa & Salon to give out more than a thousand free turkeys in West Dayton.
Despite a cold and rainy day, members of the church braved it out as car after car lined up for a turkey.
Pastor Stephen Lewis is trying his best to lend a helping hand. He personally talked with just about every person that drove through.
He even encountered people making pickups for others.
“You are a school teacher, man? I’m going to give you some turkeys. We appreciate what you do,” said Pastor Lewis to one car full of people.
“Some people have real needs. A lot of people might not recognize how much a turkey might mean to them this time of year,” said Lewis.
Lewis started the day with over 1,500 turkeys. It’s all thanks to the new partnership with Karmel’s.
“Last year they gave out 1,700. When I met the owner and he told me what he was doing , I said wow. Here, churches are having dinners but they are not really thinking of those who are not eating. But here’s a secular institution that has a concern for people,” said Lewis.
Pastor Lewis hopes the new partnership will benefit the West Side of Dayton for years to come.
The church was out from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will give any leftovers to communities that could not make it to the church.
