Dayton Arcade tour sparks excitement for downtown development

DAYTON, Ohio(WDTN)- For years, people have waited for new life at at the downtown Dayton Arcade.

During a downtown housing tour on Saturday, people were able to look around at the progress made so far. 

“They’re putting the new glass in the rotunda and all the stores have been gutted out. They’re moving forward and it’s really beautiful,” Emilee Langenkemp, special events manager at the Downtown Dayton Partnership said.

Saturday’s downtown housing tour was the last chance for the public to take a peak inside before construcition kicks into high gear.

“I suspect that things will open around the end of next year for stage one and then the housing part of the Arcade is a part of stage two,” Kemp said.

The downtown housing tour offeres busses and shuttles for more than 600 people to nine downtown apartments and condos. 

“This is history. I’m an old guy and I love it. It’s interesting to walk through and hear people talking because I know a lot of stuff(they are talking about), ” Wayne Miller, a Dayton resident said.

The Arcade was the center of attention during the tour. The downtown development is exciting to watch for many.

“I’ve been seeing Dayton evolving. It looks very promising, very encouraging so I’m liking what I’m seeing,” Marcia Perio-Epps, another Dayton resident said.

For some, curiousty of construction happening behind these walls brought him downtown.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the architecture of the Arcade and I wanted to take a look at what’s in store for Dayton. I think it just has endless potential,” said Tim Divens. 

While the Arcade gets into full construction mode, people are looking forward to new energy downtown.
