Dash cam video of high speed chase released

Local News

Police have released dash cam video of a high-speed chase that ended after the suspect ran a red light and was hit by another car.

It all started when an officer tried to make a traffic stop.

Video shows the suspect, 36-year-old Benjamin McDonald, speeding through the city, weaving in and out of cars, and running red lights.

The video starts with McDonald speeding down Salem Avenue with officers in hot pursuit, last Wednesday.

Police say McDonald is known to run from police; His car has failed to stop six times before.
Including once that very same day, before this pursuit.

McDonald is seen running red lights and swerving around cars – narrowly avoiding other drivers on the road.

Police chase him onto Edwin C Moses Boulevard before he runs another red light and turns onto east third street.

The car goes left of center, at one point.

About three minutes after the chase first started: a collision – after McDonald runs a red light.

A car traveling south on James H McGee boulevard clips McDonald as he speeds through the intersection, sending the spinning out of control.

It hits four cars, total, before coming to a rest.

The impact sends a woman riding in the suspect’s car flying out of the vehicle and onto the road.

Firefighters had to pull McDonalds out of his wrecked car.

He’s now being charged with vehicular assault and failure to comply.
