DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Dayton Police are trying to track down two men who robbed a convenience store at gunpoint late Wednesday night.
Workers inside the store say some terrified customers hid in the cooler as the suspects made off with cash.
Sam’s Market was back open on Thursday, and the shop owner says he’s just grateful no one was hurt.
Surveillance video shows the two men walking into the East Third Street store Wednesday night with their heads down. Then one storms behind the counter, another stands in front of the register – both with guns drawn.
“The first thing they said was – it’s a robbery,” said one worker who did not wish to appear on camera.
He says he feared for the customers in the store, some of whom hid in the cooler.
One of them called 911.
“They were terrified. When you have somebody pointing a gun at your head…they were terrified,” he said.
As the men were leaving, witnesses say one fired a gunshot into the ceiling.
Store owner Samer Hamed says the suspects made off with about $1,100 in cash.
After the robbery, the suspects ran off, but it’s not clear if they got into a vehicle. As people wait for justice, Hamed says customers have offered well wishes and support.
“Since the morning, we have a lot of phone calls and stop by. That’s enough for us. We have very good customers,” he said.
Authorities are still searching for those suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Dayton police.
