Crews extinguish flames at GE Aviation in Vandalia

Local News

VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) – Fire crews responded to reports of a fire at GE Aviation Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Capt. Duane Stitzel with the City of Vandalia Fire Division tells 2 NEWS that upon arrival, crews could see a large amount of smoke coming from the east side of the building.

GE employees had already evacuated the facility and were able to direct firefighters to a mechanical room where responders found two chairs and a large trash can on fire.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames, and because the mechanical room was isolated from the rest of the building, it did not spread to any other area of the facility.

Capt. Stitzel could not declare an immediate cause of the fire, but did mention that saltwork was being done shortly beforehand.

No injuries were reported.
