Crews extinguish fire at vacant Dayton home

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Emergency crews responded to a fire at a vacant home in Dayton Tuesday evening.

Dispatch tells 2 NEWS initial reports of smoke coming from the house, located at 1417 Leonhard Street, came in around 7:30 pm.

Crews say they encountered flames on the second floor and had to force their way into the residence, which was boarded up.

Once inside, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

An exact cause of the fire is unclear at this time but Dayton Fire District Chief Andrew Wiley says there were signs that squatters had been coming in and out of the home.
