DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a woman whose body was found in the basement of a Dayton home at the end of January.

An out-of-state family member initially called 911 to request that officers do a welfare check at her grandmother’s last known address on Mapleview Avenue. She received a tip that her grandmother had died, and that her body was dumped at a nearby location.

Dayton Police officers began a “diligent” search to try and locate the grandmother, which ultimately culminated at a home on Virginia Avenue.

Inside the home, officers found the hidden remains of 89-year-old Mary Lauhon.

The case remains under investigation by the Dayton Police Department.
