Coroner identifies teen who drowned in lake at Preble County campground

NEW PARIS, Ohio (WDTN) The victim who drowned in the lake at the Preble County campground has now been identified. 

The Preble County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 15-year-old Diante Taylor of Richmond, Indiana.

“It’s a hard time for everybody. My condolences go out to the victims family. Everybody looks at the quarry and campground as a good time. As a place to go an relax. For something like this to happen, it does effect people,’ said Chief Jeremy Schroeder, of the New Paris Police Department.

Dispatch for the Preble County Sheriff’s Office confirms crews were called to the Natural Springs Resort on South Washington Street in New Paris around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Officers say the teen went swimming with friends when they noticed he had disappeared.  It’s not known how long his body was in the water. 

The incident is under investigation. The beach section of Natural Springs Resort will be closed Tuesday as the investigation continues.
