MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – A Chinese Ambassador was in Moraine Wednesday, touring the Fuyao Glass America factory, discussing current operations and possible future progress like expanding the factory.
Ambassador Huang Ping was joined by almost two dozen area officials and Chinese consulate members who discussed trade between the U.S. and China, mutual understanding, and future cooperations between the two countries on a local scale.
“This is the future, as we transition and we get all kinds of different companies to come here,” said Montgomery County Commissioner, Carolyn Rice. “We hope this will encourage other foreign investment, not only China, but other companies from around the world, because this is a success story that we’re excited to tell.”
Ohio is one of ten states in Ambassador Ping’s district, and he said his first time touring the facility was to get a feel for the Miami Valley way of life, and to promote mutual understanding, and spur future investment.
He said almost $600 million U.S. dollars have already been invested here, with more on the way.
“I’m so happy to come here to Fuyao, to see a Chinese company actually invested here,” said Ambassador Ping. “There is so many people, local people employed here, more than 2,000 people here, now they’re looking for more space to expand this project.”
The Trotwood Mayor, Mary McDonald, attended the tour and said Fuyao has helped her residents by reemploying them after GM closed.
She shared with 2NEWS that the expansion plans could happen in Trotwood.
“We’re kind of talking, it’s very early, so we can’t share very much of that, but the ideas are very much on the table,” said McDonald. “We’re just doing our due dilligence behind the scenes to make sure that we can make this possible.”
