Chewy looks to hire for 500 positions at new fulfillment center

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - The new Chewy's fulfillment center at the Dayton International Airport is close to opening, and now the focus is shifting to finding employees.

Right now, the company is looking to hire for 500 positions by the end of the month, and said even more could open up in the near future.

The 690,500 square-foot facility is located on Lightner Road is almost constructed for their opening date in early June.

Meanwhile, the pet supply retailer is hosting a hiring fair at the Residence Inn by Marriott in Butler Township, Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. throughout the month of May.

"Dayton really offered that labor market, we're very excited about the community and what the community has to offer and for Chewy's to be a contributing member to the community," said Gregg Walsh, Vice President of fulfillment centers for Chewy.

Walsh said they are hiring for full-time positions, including facilities technicians, utility workers, human resources, IT technicians, and more.

"We're going to launch the site, do our first receipts and first ships and then we expect that volume to continue to grow so we expect to hire more than 500, but we don't have a specific time," said Walsh.

Interested applicants can also apply online.

Walsh said they have been looking at nearby competitors pay so they can offer competitive wages, along with benefits and the opportunity for advancement.

"In addition to that, we will provide a step-pay plan so team members will see two increases within the first six months and then increases every six months there after," said Walsh.

This is Chewy's eighth fullfillment center and the first in Ohio.
