CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) – What is the solution to ending bullying? It seems like a loaded question. But at Centerville High School, one man is trying to answer that all important question.
“I really feel for students that are going to school today. There’s a lot going on in the world,” said Dr. Brian Ceccarelli, the founder of ItsTime2.
Think of the program name as It’s Time 2 ___ (as a fill in the blank) with something like ‘Start a conversation.’
According to Ceccarelli, he has a solution to trying to end bullying.
“I want to empower the students to take control of their own environment. They control bullying, they control gun violence, they control everything. I think we are a bunch of adults trying to find a solution to a problem they have the answer too,” said Ceccarelli.
To spell it out, Ceccarelli says the solution is truth coupled with understanding that each and every person has something going on in their life. And those issues bring to life, anger and dark thoughts.
“70 percent of the kids raise their hands when I ask if there is bullying in their school,” said Ceccarelli.
The organization wants to make these students cry, to open up.
Ceccarelli isn’t running the show on his own. He is getting help from an Alter grad who says she was bullied in school.
“Just seeing all of the teen suicides for young teens and all the things they just don’t grasp right now. I just wanted to let them know that they are not alone and that they can get through this,” said Jessica Pricci.
The two speakers run students through their own personal stories and those they’ve compiled over the years.
Students raised their hands when asked if they were impacted by things like suicide and divorce.
Ceccarelli hopes that engaging activities and the art of storytelling will create conversations that end bullying.
