DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Centerville father accused of trying to murder his two children in a fire is pleading ‘not guilty’ by reason of insanity.

30-year-old Ray Eades’s attorney filed a petition Tuesday saying Eades is not competent to stand trial.

The Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Eades last week for Attempted Aggravated Murder, Attempted Arson, and Endangering Children.

He reportedly locked himself in a home on Bradstreet Road on September 23 and refused to let police officers inside when they showed up to do a welfare check on Eades’s two children, an eight-year-old boy and six-year-old girl.

The Fire Department was called to the scene, and upon entering the home found that a wood-burning smoker had been lit and placed in an upstairs bedroom.
