Car goes up in flames on Clayton road

CLAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A man escaped unharmed after his car caught on fire Monday morning in Clayton.

Fire officials say crews responded to reports of a car on fire on Diamond Mill Road near Phillipsburg-Union Road around 5:40 a.m. Monday.

When firefighters arrived, they found the front of the car on fire.

The man driving the car was able to get out safely. He was unharmed.

The driver told firefighters he was driving on Diamond Mill Road when he began noticing sparks coming from the back of his car.

The man stopped the car to check and found the underneath of his car on fire.

The fire destroyed the car.

Authorities closed one lane of Diamond Mill Road to put out the fire and clean up the scene. All lanes have since reopened.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
