Car crashes into building after chase in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A police chase ended in a crash in Dayton early Monday morning.

Police say the chase began around 3:30 a.m. Monday when officers spotted a vehicle reported stolen on Sunday night.

According to police, the victim said someone stole his car at gunpoint at the Shell gas station on Gettysburg Avenue near Third Street just after 9 p.m. Sunday.

Officers spotted that vehicle and tried to pull it over Monday morning. The vehicle took off, leading officers on a short pursuit.

Police say speeds reached 70 miles per hour before the vehicle lost control and crashed into a vacant building near the intersection of N. Main Street and Marathon Avenue just after 3:30 a.m. Monday.

Officers took a juvenile male into custody without incident. Police say the teen wasn’t injured in the crash.

Police have not said what he might be charged with.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office assisted Dayton Police during the pursuit.

The incident is under investigation.
