CAIR wants hate-crime charges in Kettering assault case

Local News

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) – The Cincinnati chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is calling on the Kettering prosecutor to charge of a man accused of assaulting a Muslim woman with a hate crime.

According to the organization, the suspect and his wife beat the woman in a Meijer grocery store back in February while targeting racial slurs at her.

The victim, who did not want to go on camera, says she felt she needed to bring it forward.

“It’s a horrible incident that happened but it does raise awareness to what’s going on. There’s a lot of people that don’t report these crimes, so I think I have the responsibility to bring it forward,” the victim said.

The man currently faces an assault charge.
