BROOKVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) – The Payless ShoeSource distribution center in Brookville will close as a result of the company’s intent to file for bankruptcy.

Brookville City Manager Gary Burkholder said that Payless has not provided specific details about when exactly the center will shut its doors.

“Our thoughts and concerns are with the employees that will be affected by this,” Burkholder said.

Our partners at the Dayton Business Journal report that closing the center, located at 1 Collective Way in Brookville, will result in hundreds of job losses. Around 500 people are currently employed there.

Payless is the latest in a string of national retailers that have closed as e-commerce sales increase, along with other changing consumer habits, such as The Bon-Ton, hhgregg, and Toys ‘R’ Us.
