Armstrong Air and Space Museum plans weekend of fun to celebrate Apollo 11 moon landing

WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WDTN) – The Armstrong Air and Space Museum will be hosting a weekend of activities on Saturday, July 21st and Sunday, July 22nd to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

NASA astronauts Don Thomas and Robert Springer will be present, as will other special guests.

The astronauts will kick off the annual Run to the Moon 10k, 5k, and 1 mile runs beginning at the museum at 8 am on the 21st.  Robert Springer will give a presentation at 2 pm at the museum’s Astro Theater, followed by a presentation at 3:30 pm by Don Thomas. They will both be available for autographs after their presentations in the Modern Space Gallery.

On Saturday, catch the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery’s Animals Alive! program, Imagination Station: Extreme Science Demos, Star Wars Characters, a Moon Pie eating contest, and kids trivia. The Lost in Space robot will also make an appearance outside the museum.

On Sunday, the Toledo Zoo’s Zooper Challenge program will be featured, followed by Magician Russo’s Bent Reality show and a second presentation from Don Thomas. The weekend will end with the Lima Area Concert Band in the pavilion at 7 pm.
