DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – National Service Recognition Day was held Tuesday and to celebrate, Dayton/Montgomery County AmeriCorps honored those who help serve in the county.
The event featured several guest speakers including Gene Saunders, the Deputy District Director for Congressman Mike Turner, and City Commissioner Darryl Fairchild, who spoke on how important service is.
AmeriCorps serves a community in several aspects including food insecurity and poverty alleviation.
“Just bringing us together shines that spotlight,” says Ashley Cummings, AmeriCorps Ambassador. “I think it motivates a lot of the members to recognize how big we are and how that makes an impact.”
The Dayton/Montgomery County AmeriCorps currently has 91 members and 60 Senior Corps members.
