911 call released after garbage truck slams into nursing home

Local News

XENIA, Ohio (WDTN) – A newly released 911 call details the moment a garbage truck crashed into a local nursing home.

It happened last Thursday morning at Greenewood Manor.

Dispatch asks: “The trash truck went through the building?”

The caller responds: “Through the back of the building, yeah. It’s half in, half out.”

The crash left a huge hole in the side of the nursing home. No one inside the building was hurt.

But witnesses say medics took the driver of the truck to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.

Greene County administrator Brandon Huddleson said nursing home residents were not affected by the crash as the building in question, only housed staff offices.

“All of our residents were back in their bed by Thursday evening,” he said. “The area that was affected was administrative offices, so we’ve relocated that staff for the time being.”

The area has been fenced off and covered by a tarp.

Crews on scene at the home, today were removing debris in preparation of future construction.

“Currently we’re dealing with insurance companies and with contractors to secure pricing,” Huddleson said.
