MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) –  A 12-year-old student is in custody after a gun was found on the school’s property.

Frank DePalma with the Montgomery County Educational Services Center said the gun was not brought into the school.

The gun was found on the property of Learning Center West in Moraine.

Moraine Detective Sergeant Jon Spencer said between 7:45 and 8:00 a.m. Monday the student was carrying the revolver in his backpack on the bus. Several students talked about the student with the loaded gun.

Spencer said students talked about the student with the gun and the staff members were aware of the situation then called police.

The student is facing criminal charges and is being held at the Juvenile Justice Center.

Spencer said the 12-year-old did have prior arrests before this incident.

Police say this incident is still under investigation.
