Jefferson Twp. family loses keepsakes in fire

News

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A family is safe after their detached garage caught fire in Jefferson Township.

It happened at 9030 West Third Street around 8:30 this morning. Smoke could be seen from US 35.

The road was shut down, but has since been re-opened.

Bonnie Thacker got up to make coffee before her daughter rain into the home, screaming there was a fire. Thacker was worried her son was inside because it was the last place she saw him go.

After a phone call, she learned he left in one of the family’s vehicles. She says a 1940’s Hot Rod that was a family keepsake, supplies and family photos were destroyed.

“All I can say is that I know my husband lost a lot of things that he values, but God was definitely looking out for us or my son would be gone,” said Thacker.

No one was injured, but the detached garage is considered a total loss.
