Good Samaritans rescue kids from flipped car

TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) – Two strangers rushed to help the victims of the crash Friday morning.

Police say five people were inside including three children after a crash on State Route 49 in Trotwood.

Chad Collard and Lavell Zachary, both military veterans, ran from their vehicles to help those inside the flipped SUV.

“I was scared of a fire happening or whatever and wanted to make sure everyone was okay,” said Collard.

Collard and Zachary helped get the kids out from the back where police say they were not properly restrained.

The two youngest children, ages 3 and 4 took to their heroes.

“The little girl walked to me and I pulled her out the back and latched on to me the whole time,” Collard said.

“The little boy, he never knew me and he was gripping me as tight as he could,” said Zachary.

Witnesses told police the female driver and the male passenger were seen hitting one another before the crash.

Deputy Chief John Porter says if that turns out to be the case, both could have domestic assault, and child endangering charges coming their way.

All three children were taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital. They’re all in good condition.
