Family of accused Madison Twp. school shooter releases statement

MADISON TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLWT)  -The family of the 14-year-old student charged in a shooting at a Butler County Jr/Sr high school has released a statement about the incident.

The statement by Austin Hancock’s family said:

“We are devastated by Austin’s actions at school on Monday. We pray for the immediate recovery of the injured students and for the healing of the entire community. Our family has lived in this community our entire lives and we never expected anyone to experience the event that occurred on Monday, and we certainly did not expect that one of our family members would be involved. We are praying for everyone involved, including Austin whom we still deeply love. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for all of the support that has been shown our family and community.”

Four students were injured in Monday’s shooting. Two were shot and two others suffered injuries from shrapnel or while trying to flee the building, officials said.

Hancock is charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of felonious assault, inducing panic and making terroristic threats — all felony juvenile charges.

The teen’s attorney denied the charges in court Tuesday, the equivalent of pleading not guilty in adult court.
