DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A man is dead following a shooting at Rooster’s in Dayton.
The call came in from the hospital before 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Rooster’s on North Main Street in Dayton.
“Two cars met up back here,” Dayton Police Lt. Bill Keller said. “And something went wrong and the other guy shot at him.”
One of the men who was shot was 21-year-old Leo Montgomery who later died at the hospital. The shots rang out in the 3500 block of North Main Street at around 5:30 p.m. Friday.
According to Montgomery cousin’s James Walker, the 21-year-old was the father to a baby girl and loved my many.
“He loved everybody,” Walker said. “Everybody loved him. He helps everybody out. Everybody helps him out.”
No one dining inside the restaurant at the time heard the gunshots according to Police because no calls came into 911.
“The shots were muffled so nobody in the restaurant even knew it happened,” Lt. Keller said. “And they weren’t customers so no calls came out here.”
Police first learned of the shooting after getting a call from Good Samaritan Hospital after both victims arrived.
“We have detectives here looking at the scene checking it out,” Lt. Keller said. “We also have detectives at the hospital interviewing the person who got shot and survived.”
Walker first learned of his cousin’s death Friday after seeing posts on Facebook. That’s when he quickly rushed to scene to find out what happened. Now, he’s pleading with police and the public to help find the person responsible.
“I hope they get justice for my cousin,” Walker said. “That’s all I hope they get justice.”
