Electrical failure causes Reibold Building evacuation

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  The Reibold Building in downtown Dayton is being evacuated after reports of a loud boom.

Dayton Fire Officials tell 2 NEWS an underground power connection that failed under the building prompting this evacuation. Officials say this sounded like an explosion. Smoke went into the basement of the building.

Everyone inside the building was evacuated to the Convention Center.

South Main Street is closed while crews deal with the situation.

Montgomery County Dispatch tells 2 NEWS there is an active fire alarm but did not have any further information.

We received pictures from the scene that show people standing outside and Dayton Fire crews at that location.

The Reibold Building is an 11-story structure on Main Street between West 4th and West 5th Streets. It houses the Montgomery County Health Department as well as other county offices.
