DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A dog jumped in to protect a teen boy when he said another dog charged at him and attacked.
Officers responded to East Fourth Street and Philadelphia Drive Saturday around 9:30 p.m.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the boy’s mother. She told police her 14-year-old son took their pit bull named “Menace” down the street for a walk. She said as they were walking, a neighbor’s pit bull named “Jada” ran from the backyard and tried to bite the boy. The boy told police before the dog could lunge at him, Menace jumped in between them. He said Jada attacked his dog, biting his dog on the side of the head. Jada’s owner came running from his home and was able to get his dog back inside the house.
Police said there were numerous cuts on Menace and its ear was injured with a large puncture wound and part of the ear was gone.
Police met with Jada’s owner. He told officers he went outside to cook dinner on the grill and let his two-year-old pit bull named Jada roam free in the yard without a leash. He said Jada then ran out the back gate and down the street and attacked Menace. The owner said he was able to pull the two dogs apart but got bit in the process. He said he took Jada back into his home and treated his bite wound.
Police quarantined Jada. The owner was also issued a summons.
