DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – May is Stroke Awareness Month and Dr. John Terry with Premier Health joined 2 NEWS to discuss the early signs and symptoms of stroke.
Dr. Terry says the latest handy acronym to remember that could help save your life is “B.E. F.A.S.T.”
B – Balance changes
E – Eye symptoms
F – Face symptoms like numbness, drooping
A – Arms, one arm may be weaker than the other
S – Speech, slurring
T – Time, act fast and call 911
This acronym is a change from the widely used acronym “F.A.S.T.”
“There is a separate blood supply that goes to the back part of the brain that has not received a lot of attention. It often causes vision or balance problems, so that’s why that [B.E.] got added on,” Dr. Terry says.
