DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) –  Police were called to the 1200 block of Seneca Drive Thursday morning after a woman called 911 saying her husband shot a dog.

The man who shot the dog also called 911 to report the shooting. You can hear that call here. This call has been edited to remove the victim’s name.

According to police, a man was attacked in an alley by a pitbull around 10 Thursday morning. You can hear the man tell Montgomery County dispatchers the dog belongs to a neighbor and it was charging him. The man, who is a former police officer, shot the dog.

No charges will be filed against the man who shot the dog. The dog is still alive and was taken to the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center.

The man suffered minor injuries.
