DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Carousel Beauty Colleges in the Miami Valley are closed according to a note posted on their front door.

According to the college’s website, they have locations in Dayton, Huber Heights, Kettering, Middletown and Springfield.

The note on their door reads, “We deeply regret to announce that after 57 years, Carousel Beauty Colleges will not reopen its five campuses in Southwest Ohio after the labor day holiday. This was a difficult but necessary decision. We will assist students through the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology in transferring to other area schools to complete their coursework.”

This closure comes the same day when ITT Technical Institute shut down all of its campuses across the country, including Dayton, after getting federal sanctions. We are asking what’s next for students.

We found both ITT Tech and Carousel should have “teach-out” agreements.

That’s an agreement with another comparable and close institution where students can finish their program or transfer their credits.

ITT Tech leaders says they still have staff to help with this transition.

As for Carousel, we could not get a hold of anyone at the school.

But according to Ohio’s Board of Cosmetology, school leaders have 14 days to forward the complete, certified training record for every student to the board so students can get their records.

If the school is going to be closed permanently, it is required by law to make arraignments for those students impacted.

According to Ohio law, students can get a refund for tuition already paid.

There’s still no word on why Carousel closed. Even the State Board of Cosmetology was given no reason when they were notified Tuesday morning via email.

According to students who attended the school, they were not notified about the situation until that note was posted on the door.

Elite Hair Academy reached out to 2 NEWS Tuesday late afternoon.  It’s a small, private school offering Ohio-approved programs in Cosmetology. The CEO says he’s already gotten calls from half a dozen Carousel students and says it will accept all state-approved hours from Carousel as transfers to Elite. He says to just give them a call at 937-290-0600.

The facility is located at 4043 Marshall Road in Kettering.
