Day ahead of early voting, polling machines tested

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Ohio is less than 24 hours away from polls opening for early, in-person voting for the March primary election.

And that means Tuesday night, Montgomery County officials are making sure there won’t be any glitches.

All day technicians have been looking for any signs that might point to trouble for voters.

And Tuesday is not only a big day for elections officials, but for residents as well who want their voice heard. It’s the last day for residents to register to vote.

To prepare for those voters, the county is working out of its new warehouse.

Technicians did the logistics and accuracy testing of Montgomery County’s 2,800 electric polling machines.

The county says the same trusted system has been used for 12 years.

Election officials want residents to be prepared when they come to vote.

Residents must be registered to either vote early or to vote on primary day, March 15th.

If a resident voted last November and hasn’t moved, then the resident does not need to re-register.

And if a resident wants to vote with a different party then the one he or she is registered with that can be done.

Officials say they’re ready for whatever may come, and that means making sure you have the tools you need.

2 NEWS asked, “Can residents, can voters be confident that when they come to the polls tomorrow or in March that these devices will work?”

“Absolutely they can be confident that they are going to work,”Montgomery County Board of Elections Director Jan Kelly assured. “So we train, super train. (We) reiterate mistakes that happen in other counties so we all can learn from them because that’s how we do learn as election officials and just hope everybody’s trained on Election Day and all goes well.”

Residents have until Tuesday at 9PM at the downtown Montgomery County Board of Elections Office to register or call with questions.

Several other agencies like libraries and Ohio DMV branches will also accept applications. As long as they are dated for Tuesday, those registration applications will be processed.
