SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) — A suspect has been arrested after a man was killed in Springfield on Wednesday morning.
The City of Springfield said a 19-year-old man surrendered to police late Wednesday in connection to the shooting.
Police said the fatal shooting happened at 901 West Main Street near the Hands of Mercy soup kitchen sometime before 10:30 a.m. The victim was 37-year-old Joshua Tackett, according to Springfield Police.
The suspect was arrested on charges of tampering with evidence, carrying a concealed weapon, and discharging a firearm into a habitation.
The owner of the Hands of Mercy soup kitchen, Fred Stegner, said Tackett was a regular at the kitchen. Stegner also said he was living in a tent in a homeless encampment in the soup kitchen’s parking lot.
