DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A total of three inmates fled from MonDay Community Correctional Institution around 8:30 p.m, Sunday night, but all three have since been captured.
According to an incident report obtained by 2 NEWS from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, West Carrollton police stopped a vehicle that was carrying the two escapees.
Deputies arrived to assist, and found 26-year-old Cody Eichorn and 22-year-old Brandon Adkins in the backseat of the vehicle, accompanied by five other people.
Eichorn was reportedly wearing a dark blue hoodie on top of his prison blues.
Another man in the car was arrested at the scene for a separate warrant unrelated to the inmates’ escape.
Michael Flannery, Director of MonDay Community Correctional, tells 2 NEWS that it has been more than 20 years since an inmate escaped directly from the facility.
24-year-old Jessie Childers has since been captured.
In a statement, Flannery said, in part, “We are conducting an internal investigation to determine the cause of the escape and once concluded we will take the appropriate security measures to remedy the situation to prevent a future occurrence. We are thankful that no one at the facility sustained any injuries and we are appreciative of local law enforcement’s quick actions to apprehend two of the residents.”
The investigation has been turned over to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
